The following newspaper article comes from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is being used for historical preservation purposes only. November 6, 1961 Lisowski, Rogers Battle To Draw Before 8,564 Both Score Falls in 45-Minute match at Civic Auditorium Crusher Lisowski, the rugged Polishman from Milwaukee, grappled Buddy Rogers, world heavyweight champion, to a draw in the 45- minute main match of Toots Mondt's all-star wrestling show before a crowd of 8,564 at the Civic Auditorium last night. The gross gate was $22,095.60. The Crusher had Rogers reeling from a head lock which he held for almost 20 minutes. The Champion, after breaking the hold, threw Lisowski out of the ring, injuring Crusher's leg. In this condition, the Crusher, fell easy prey to a stepover leg lock at 24:30 for the first fall. The Crusher, at 8:15, scored the second fall with "The Claw". Near the end of the match, the Crusher was working Rogers over fairly well, but time ran out. The Kangaroos, world tag team champs from Australia, scored two falls to beat the team of Ace Freeman and Zivko Kovacic. A forth tag team match saw the duo of Bearcat Wright and Sweet Daddy Siki, Jamaican title holders, scored two straight falls over Donnie and Ronnie Fargo - the Blond Bombs. Alexandros Kostopoulos, 225, of Athens, Greece, scored his second straight quick win when he flopped Gypsie Joe, 225, at 2:24 with a body slam and press. In a funny joust, the midget team of Brown Panther and Tiny Tim scored straight falls over Sky Low Low and Peewee James. The first pin came at 7:05 and the second at 6:41. Haystack Calhoun, a mere 601-pounder, made a one-man match out of a tag team match when he fell on Micky Sharp and blunted him at 7:33. Calhoun's partner was Carlo Milano, while Red Berry was the comedian along with Sharp. In the opener, Vittorio Apollo, 223, Argentina, subdued Johnny Kace, 232, Chicago, with an Argentine Crab at 10:47. |
